Marea Hickie

With over three decades of legal experience, Marea is a leader of our Abuse Law practice. Marea has extensive legal experience, a high level of resilience, professionalism, and empathy in representing our clients in historic sexual abuse claims.

Marea is an experienced Special Counsel with Shine Lawyers’ Abuse Law team. As Legal Practice Manager in our Sydney CBD branch, Marea also guides and supports our talented teams in providing high-quality legal representation. 

Marea has been a legal practitioner for over 35 years, acting for both plaintiffs and defendants. During her career, Marea has been a partner of a large national firm, general counsel for a national insurance company, run her own legal practice and established in-house legal teams for national corporate entities.  

In her extensive legal career, Marea has provided both non-litigious and litigious complex commercial advice. Marea has conducted complex litigation across various jurisdictions involving all areas of personal injury law, as well as superannuation and total and permanent disability, commercial law, employment and industrial law, discrimination law, criminal law and occupational health and safety law. 

Since 1996 Marea has been a Law Society of NSW, Accredited Specialist in Personal Injury Law.  

In 2019, Marea was awarded Australian Insurance Lawyer of the Year by Lawyers’ Weekly.  

From 2017 to date Marea has been a member of the Law Society of NSW, Specialist Accreditation Committee for Personal Injury Law. 

From 2019 to date, Marea has been an Adjunct Lecturer of The College of Law, (NSW) Practical Legal Training Program
