Lucille understands how confronting and intimidating the legal process can be for people. She ensures each of her clients is managed with honesty, empathy, and support. She says our value to ‘always stand up for the little guy' has always been a core value throughout her entire life.
"This value has informed every aspect of my life from my career choice, choice of workplace, choice of the work I have undertaken, to advocating for my son in relation to his school.”
Lucille is a Senior Associate with our Abuse Law team, based in our Helensvale branch. With an impressive career spanning over two decades, Lucille has spent the last 13 years in Australia after growing up in South Africa during the apartheid era.
It was parts of her upbringing, that Lucille feels shaped her as a person and ignited her passion for fighting injustices and giving voice to the powerless.
She grew up with a maid, with whom she developed a close relationship and witnessed the injustices she suffered under apartheid and the traumatic events she experienced throughout the political unrest in the 1980s. Lucille says witnessing this treatment was instrumental in guiding her to a career in law.
Throughout her career, Lucille has acted in several notable, successful cases, including:
Rustin v Colonial Mutual Life Assurance Society [2014] QDC 202
Gomez v Board of Trustees of the State Public Superannuation Scheme [2017] QSC 98
Board of Trustees of the State Public Sector Superannuation Scheme v Gomez [2018] QCA 67
SDA v Corporation of the Synod of the Diocese of Rockhampton & Anor [2021] QCA 172
DS v State of Tasmania – consent judgment of $1,200,000
