Dan Mori
Legal Consultant, LtCol, U.S. Marine Corps (Retired)
"My roots in law started in the United States, advocating for disabled individuals that had been institutionalised. Joining Shine Lawyers has enabled me to focus on helping those that need protection, who without Shine, would have no one fighting for them."
Dan is involved in the following Class Actions:
Dan Mori is renowned for challenging the US military commission system. After serving almost 30 years in the United States Marine Corps, Dan joined Shine Lawyers to provide access to justice for those who would otherwise be forgotten.
In June 2007, Dan was presented with an honorary membership of the Australian Bar Association for his defence of David Hicks. Later that year he was awarded a civil justice award from the Australian Lawyers Alliance as recognition by the legal profession of unsung heroes who, despite personal risk or sacrifice, have fought to preserve individual rights, human dignity or safety.
Dan has worked as a senior military judge and received several US awards and decorations. These include the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Roger N. Baldwin Medal of Liberty Award.
Dan is leading the Camp Lejeune and New River water contamination claims team, who are fighting for justice on behalf of Australian Defence and US Service members that were exposed to toxic chemicals during their service. Find out more here.
