Carolyn Barker AM

Carolyn is responsible for the leadership and direction of the Shine Justice Group. With over 25 years' experience at C-level and many decades as a professional non-executive company director, Carolyn has executive and governance experience in a wide range of sectors. 

Carolyn Barker AM is Chief Executive Officer of Shine Justice Ltd. She provides overall leadership and direction for the Shine Justice Group and has expertise in executive leadership and management, organisational restructure, strategy, planning and innovation.  

With a strong focus on commercial agility and business acumen, Carolyn works closely with Shine’s Managing Director Simon Morrison, the Board of Directors and Shine’s leadership teams to develop and execute the group’s strategic goals and objectives. 

Carolyn’s association with Shine Justice began in 2009 when she joined the corporate board of Shine Lawyers. She was the only non-executive director to be appointed to the listed entity in 2013, a position she held until 2020. In 2023, Carolyn undertook Shine’s significant cost-out program and she joined the firm as Chief of Staff to Simon Morrison later that year. 

In addition to her deep knowledge of Shine, Carolyn has over 25 years’ experience as a CEO of organisations in Australia and New Zealand. Her leadership roles in health, transport, private sector education and consumer services were mostly for private equity owners. 

Carolyn’s company directorships include private, government and not for profit boards. She was previously chair of Brisbane City Council’s Transport for Brisbane and Queensland Symphony Orchestra boards. Carolyn is currently chair of Australian Performing Arts Conservatory and national apprentice and training organisation MIGAS.  

In 2005, Carolyn was made a Member in the Order of Australia (AM) for her service to management and education organisations and the arts. She is a previous QUT School of Business Alumni of the Year Award winner and has trained as a nationally accredited mediator.
